Plant receives Health & Safety Award by VBG

VBG, one of Germany’s largest liability insurance associations, presented Corning GmBH in Kaiserslautern, Germany with the Occupational Health and Safety Award for the third time.  This award honors companies who have an efficient occupational health and safety management system in place.

In order to protect employees, Corning uses innovative, state of the art technologies, for instance, a newly installed modern system to make loading points more secure. Currently, spots located at potential danger points can swiftly and flexibly project warning messages on the floor.

“Occupational safety and health care is a cornerstone of the Corning Values we live across the entire company, all around the world,” said Thomas Neuberger, plant manager, Corning GmbH in Kaiserslautern.

“I’m proud to accept this award on behalf of the entire workforce.  Every single person makes an important contribution each day, and the employees are the basis of our safety culture.”

Work-related accidents at the plant have been at low levels for years. “The certified implementation of a systematic and effective occupational safety is important not only to the employees of a company,” said Silke Gutzeit-Hummel, subject matter expert for VBG Mainz.  “Certified, but most importantly, practiced occupational safety is a real competitive advantage and inspires customer confidence.”

Corning GmbH is part of Environmental Technologies and is a supply hub for European car makers.  The plant produces ceramic substrates and particulate filters for mobile emission control – from gasoline and diesel light-duty passenger cars to heavy-duty diesel trucks and construction equipment.

VBG is a non-profit organization that works to prevent work-related accidents, occupational diseases, and other health hazards. Corning is actively involved with VBG to help protect employees from work-related accidents.
